The team at Charnwood are highly skilled and have experience of supporting children with a wide variety of needs, these include, Down Syndrome, Autism, Cerebral Palsy, Global Developmental Delay and children with profound multiple learning difficulties, as well as many more. Our staff are trained to support children with feeding needs and cater for children with limited or restrictive diets. 

Our high adult to child ratios ensure that each child is supported to achieve their full potential. Our multi- sensory curriculum promotes the use of our senses to explore and grow together and this is embedded throughout the nursery. 

The team use a variety of different strategies to promote communication within the nursery, some of these include Makaton signing, the use of objects of reference and single images as well PODD communication pages. We support children’s physical development and have on site soft play areas where children can learn to challenge themselves physically within a safe and supportive environment. Children also have access to a variety of break out spaces which include light rooms and low distraction areas where they can relax and regulate either on a 1 to 1 or as part of a small group.  

Charnwood commissions in house Speech and Language Therapists as well as Physiotherapists. This is in addition to the excellent relationships we have with external agencies, these include The Portage Service, Stockport’s Educational Psychology Service, the Sensory Support Service, Stockport’s therapy services as well as the Child Development Unit, Paediatricians and Health Visitors. 

We recognise and understand that families can face a range of pressures and seek to be a place that they can turn to for support. We have our own on site Family Worker who can offer direct help to families; facilitating their access to advice; enabling attendance at appointments; supporting their understanding of forms and paperwork. They are able to offer this support in the home and most importantly always have a listening ear and a cup of tea on hand! More information on this role can be sound in the Family support tab.
